Elf

Extraordinarily tall and lithe, Elves range from 6 feet tall on the short side to no more than 8 feet tall. Even the most homely Elf has a regal air to them. Men make no distinction between the elves for the most part, with the exception being the despised Stone Elves of the Darklands, and are often surprised to learn there are two distinct cultures from which Elves hail. This distinction can be the cause of much offence if someone mistakes one cast of Elf for the other. While mistaking a Wyld Elf for a Highborn might get your laughed at or at worst a punch in the gut, doing the reverse could ruin a business deal or get your unceremoniously removed from a Mage’s tower (if you’re lucky through the door).

Highborn Elves: Haughty and aloof, the Highborn practice magic and are fiercely proud of their heritage, sometimes to the point of arrogance. They are the most common elves to be found amongst humans, having a predilection for living in cities. They often see the race of Man as inferior, and unless they have reason not to, treat them as such.

Racial Traits

Highborn Elves are nimble, both in body and mind, but their form is frail. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, and –2 Constitution.
Elves are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Elves are Humanoids with the elf subtype.
Elves have a base speed of 30 feet.
Elves with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Celestial, Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan.

Elven Immunities: Elves are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Urbanite: Elves who live in cities for more than a century can grow to know the ebb and flow of social situations just as their forest-dwelling cousins know the rules of the wild. Elves with this racial trait gain a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy checks made to gather information and Sense Motive checks made to get a hunch about a social situation.

Elven Magic: Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance. In addition, elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Spellcraft skill checks made to identify the properties of magic items.

Weapon Familiarity: Elves are proficient with shortswords, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treat any weapon with the word “Elven” in its name as a martial weapon.

Arcane Focus: Elves with this racial trait gain a +2 racial bonus on concentration checks made to cast arcane spells defensively.

Wyld Elves: Savage and nomadic, Wyld Elves share much of the physical features of their Highborn cousins but have little patience for city dwelling, preferring instead the wilds and woods. They will interact with other races when need be, and should they encounter a traveler in need, are kind and generous. With that said, however, they protect their camps with swift and deadly force. Should a traveler ever stumble upon a Wyld elf camp they had better home they were seen coming or they will surly meet with a swift demise. This is not normally an issue as most creatures make so much noise stomping through the foists that they might as well be singing at the top of their lungs, at least, if you take a Wyld Elf’s word for it.

Silent Hunter: Elves are renowned for their subtlety and skill. Elves with this racial trait reduce the penalty for using Stealth while moving by 5 and can make Stealth checks while running at a –20 penalty (this number includes the penalty reduction from this racial trait).

Weapon Familiarity: Elves are proficient with longbows (including composite longbows), longswords, rapiers, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treat any weapon with the word “elven” in its name as a martial weapon.

Woodcraft: Elves know the deep secrets of the wild like no others, especially secrets of the forests. Elves with this racial trait gain a +1 racial bonus on Knowledge (nature) and Survival checks. In forest terrain, these bonuses improve to +2.
